Critical Drug Shortage Endangers Organ Transplant Patients in Libya

In a recent statement to “Fawasel,” Mahmoud Abudabus, President of the National Organization for Organ Donation Support in Libya, issued an urgent appeal to authorities to provide vital immunosuppressant drugs for kidney dialysis and organ transplant patients. Abudabus reported that over 2,200 kidney and liver transplant patients have faced a shortage of the essential drug “CellCept 500” for more than a year, potentially forcing these individuals back into dialysis treatment.

Moreover, Abudabus highlighted that more than 6,250 dialysis patients are grappling with a severe shortage of critical medications required for their treatment sessions. This deficiency significantly exacerbates their suffering and poses a serious threat to their health. Abudabus called for immediate government action to ensure the swift supply of these crucial medications.
