A high-level U.S. delegation visited Misrata to bolster security and military cooperation. The delegation included Deputy Commander of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), Lieutenant General John Brennan, Commander of U.S. Special Operations Command Africa, Admiral Ronald Voi, and the Acting U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Jeremy Berndt. They met with the Commander of the Central Military Region, Lieutenant General Mohammed Moussa, Commander of the Counter-Terrorism Force, Major General Mohammed Zain, Commander of the Misrata Air College, Major General Mohammed Al-Qassibat, and Commander of Brigade 53, Major General Ahmed Hashem.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Libya’s page on “X,” the American delegation affirmed the United States’ support for Libyan efforts to maintain the country’s sovereignty and unify its military institutions.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to “enhance cooperation in counter-terrorism, border security, and increase educational and professional development opportunities for officers from across Libya.”
