Libya Achieves Global Recognition in International Olive Oil Quality Competition

Libya has attained a significant global milestone in the field of olive oil quality. Ambassador Walid Abu Abdullah announced that the Libyan specialized team has successfully achieved accreditation for the Libyan sensory laboratory, passing the rigorous tests conducted by the International Olive Council (IOC). This announcement was made during the 119th session of IOC member countries held in Madrid, which concluded the international olive oil quality competition.

Upon successful completion of the chemical tests, Libya will be authorized to host IOC competitions, evaluate olive oil quality, and conduct judging within the country. This achievement will also pave the way for direct export of Libyan olive oil and facilitate Libya’s integration into the global olive and olive oil industry.

Libya stands as the only Arab nation to have signed a support and assistance agreement with the International Olive Council. Under this agreement, Libya is working towards accrediting laboratories at the Biotechnology Research Center, benefiting from logistical support, training, and additional resources provided by the IOC.
