In statements to Fawasel, Mama Suleiman, a member of the High Council of State, criticized the performance of the two existing governments in the country. These remarks followed the second meeting of members of the House of Representatives and the State Council in Cairo, where Suleiman asserted that the situation with the governments had become indefensible due to rampant corruption.
Suleiman emphasized the seriousness of the current situation, pointing out that the reputation of the National Oil Corporation, which is the backbone of the Libyan economy, is now at stake due to these corrupt practices, according to his expression.
In his statements, Suleiman also addressed several other issues related to the political process in Libya, including the ongoing debate over electoral laws and the future roadmap for the country.
Suleiman stated, “With respect to the efforts made by some members of the House of Representatives and the State Council, we cannot base laws that have been amended through social media, in blatant violation of Article 30, paragraph B of the Constitutional Declaration,” referring to the 13th constitutional amendment which stipulates that the outputs of the joint 6+6 committee are final and binding.
The member of the High Council of State confirmed that now “we have two options: either issue the original version of the electoral laws agreed upon in Bouznika, Morocco or open the door for amendments wide.”
