EU ambassadors have reaffirmed their support for Libya in the withdrawal of fighters, mercenaries, and foreign forces. They also emphasized the need to establish a national mechanism for the transparent and equitable distribution of the budget and resources.
During their meeting on Wednesday with the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Menfi, the EU ambassadors reiterated their full support for the national reconciliation project endorsed by the council and any dialogue that could lead to elections. The discussions also covered further coordination in combating irregular migration, terrorism, and organized crime, with a warning about the spread of financial corruption and its impact on destabilizing the Mediterranean and Sahel regions. The ambassadors stressed the necessity of creating a national mechanism to combat financial corruption with EU support.
The EU ambassadors also reaffirmed their support for the UN mission to facilitate a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process, welcomed the call for municipal elections, and urged their implementation across the country.
