Tripoli, the capital of Libya, will host the first Mediterranean Migration Forum (TMMF) tomorrow, bringing together leaders and ministers from African Sahel and Saharan nations alongside their European counterparts. The forum aims to create a platform for serious discussions on migration issues and potential solutions.
Libyan Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Dbeibeh emphasized that the forum seeks to establish a practical and strategic framework focused on fostering development in African countries to mitigate migration. He highlighted that past experiences have shown that relying solely on security measures is insufficient.
Dbeibeh also pointed out that the increasing number of migrants imposes both security and moral responsibilities on the region’s countries. He stressed the importance of international cooperation to develop comprehensive solutions that address the root causes of migration in the countries of origin. Furthermore, he noted that Sahel countries are no longer just transit nations, which calls for a more holistic approach to dealing with migration challenges.
The forum is expected to advance regional and international cooperation in migration management, with a strong emphasis on sustainable development as a primary strategy to address this issue.
