The Turkish Embassy in Libya has welcomed the High National Elections Commission’s announcement to open voter registration for municipal council elections. In a statement, the embassy said local elections would pave the way for voters and officials to demonstrate their willingness and capability to conduct nationwide polls in Libya.
“We encourage all our Libyan brothers and sisters, including women and youth, to participate in the progress towards peace and stability by registering for the municipal elections,” the statement read.
The embassy reiterated its backing for holding elections in Libya, voicing support for efforts by the Libyan High National Elections Commission and the United Nations Support Mission in Libya to conduct comprehensive, fair, and transparent local elections.
The statement highlights Turkey’s stance on the importance of inclusive municipal polls as a stepping stone towards broader national elections in the conflict-ridden North African nation.
