On Sunday, the Chairman of the High National Elections Commission, Emad Sayeh, and the Acting Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya, Stephanie Kouri, met at the Commission’s headquarters to discuss preparations for the municipal council elections.
Sayeh and Kouri reviewed the political parties’ positions regarding the electoral process in general, focusing specifically on the municipal council elections and their potential impact on the feasibility and success of the elections.
They also addressed the main challenges facing the support project managed by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Libya, emphasizing the urgent decisions needed to advance the project in support of the municipal council elections.
It is noteworthy that the High National Elections Commission has announced an extension of the voter registration period for the first group of municipal council elections until July 7th.
